Into the Tomb...

Third gaming session notes, 3-7-09

The party finished up their conversations at Torvok’s campsite. Graff learned some cryptic information about his past involving his father being someone different than he thought. He was then unceremoniously dismissed from the Dorenbarren army by his commander Braiden Pebbletosser. Grizzled veteran Kilby “Pick” Pitcairn assured Graff he was meant for greater things and then felt he might have said too much. Two girls with green eyes, what does it mean?

Sander snuck into a tent and stole a dagger. Content that he could now juggle daggers should the situation warrant, he slipped into the woods and peed. Neville studied the goblin tome with the hammer symbol etched on the cover. He determined it was a book of necromancy.

Fehlirra the half-elf ranger came back to the campsite with a letter written in goblin she had taken off one of the corpses she created in the woods to the north. Raeta performed her Comprehend Languages ritual and discovered that the letter was from a Grist to a N’Astirh and spoke about holding the woods long enough for N’Astirh to perform the ritual at the Tomb of the Twin Goddesses. She also read Neville’s goblin tome enough to determine it was a book outlining the dark ritual of animating the dead for evil purposes. Its disturbing and unholy writing caused her to stop reading and give it back to Neville with a shiver. Neville burned the evil book in the campfire.

It was decided that the party would go in search of the Tomb to the north, while Torvok’s group would head west to intercept the approaching goblin hoard. Torvok left the wizened sergeant-at-arms behind to guard the campsite and the party left their donkeys under his watch. Following the path Fehlirra pointed out, they came across the dead body of a Knight of Maas riddled with arrows and already looted. They pulled it off the path, covered it in leaves and Raeta said a prayer to Leetaru.

Emerging from the woods into the rocky area of the north, the group was attacked by snipers from the cliffs overlooking the pass to the Tomb. The party chose to go around to the west and found a way to climb up onto the cliff. As the day turned into night, Sander snuck around to discover one of the snipers with his back turned leafing through a pouch of smokable herbs. In the move of the week, Sander knifed him in the back and threw him over the cliff. Then he stole his weed.

The party got into it with the other sniper and two goblins riding gray wolves on the pass below. Defeating these enemies, they advanced north and discovered the Tomb. Using stealth and cunning, they waited until the other goblins went inside, dealt with the lone sentry then solved the puzzle lock on a nearby tombstone to gain secret entrance to the Tomb. Sneaking into the Tomb itself, Graff’s armor made too much noise and the goblin guards sprang into action. The party defeated them and two other goblins skulking in a crypt room they had been using as a makeshift barracks.

Graff discovered a jewel in the boot of one of the long-dead elves, and Neville located two potions of healing in the stinky bedroll of a goblin. Solving the mystery of how to close the secret entrance doors, the group decided to grab some sleep and prepare for the encounters to come…

Also, Neville burned the goblin tome in the camp’s fire after Raeta told him of the book’s dark rituals.
